The most famous saree is the Kanjivaram saree, a product of South Indian handlooms. These sarees made in Kanchipuram in the state of Tamil Nadu are very beautiful and precious. A Hindu mythology is also associated with the Kanjivaram sari. The weavers of this sari are said to be the descendants of Maharishi Markandeya who used to use the fibers of the lotus flower to make cloth for the deities with their own hands. Due to this sari, Kanchipuram is also recognized as Silk City.
Kanchipuram silk sarees are made from traditional hand weaving also known as Korvai technique. The border and the pallu in a Korvai sari are of the same color and it is much brighter than the color of the rest of the sari. Genuine silver and gold are used in the weaving of the zari of Kanchipuram silk saree and it takes at least 10 days to make a sari.
By scraping the zari of a Kanjeevaram silk sari, you can identify whether it is authentic or not. The width of this sari is more than the rest of the saris. The Kanjeevaram sari made of mulberry silk makes you look even more beautiful.
